MEET THE FOUNDER -  AVNEET CHHABRA

Delhi girl Avneet, a Fashion Stylist by profession, always felt a connection to all things art and the mother Earth. A crusader of green and sustainable way of life, when she wanted to realise her dream of having a serene hideout, she decided to combine her two loves- Goa and Travel. Her search ended with a trip to a property quietly tucked away amidst the hustle-bustle of North Goa. What resulted was ‘The Hammock Goa’ - an abode that spelt warmth and cheer for the weary souls. A resort already, the place was gathering dust and was in a tattered condition. “I fell in love with the place instantly – for what it was, but more for what it could become!”, says Avneet. She could see her dream coming alive in the premises. The music, the laughter, the artsy chatter, the universal sound of “Om”, the smell of food. The place seemed to speak to her. And so, the love story began. Project Revamp, without losing the essence of the habitat and the greenery (or even the furry inhabitants- Bella, Pilot and Meaow).

 

The original architecture was retained, and the renovation was designed around the existing structure in the most sustainable and environment friendly manner. Each of the five cottages (seven rooms) was given a unique theme-based decór. The idea was to give guests a different, hearty experience every time they visit. With music and culture fests in the offing, The Hammock aspires to become a melting pot of creative and spiritual energies.

OUR ETHOS

 

At The Hammock, we are big on sustainability and truly believe that each drop makes an ocean. Everything we do, is done keeping in mind the impact on our surroundings. Which means, we say a resounding “No” to single-use plastic and that includes plastic water bottles, straws, disposables. Our kitchen waste is composted, grey water recycled to nourish the future O2 suppliers planted by a little brook running through our backyard. And oh, we also welcome suggestions on becoming more environment-friendly.

Our ethos also dictate treating everyone equally and we appreciate guests who  are interested in getting to know the people who are part of their Hammock experience. Calling them by their first names for example, is a sure-shot way of winning our hearts and paving way for life-long friendships. Who knows? It might just fetch you an impromptu song or dance performance by one of them, for free. It always pays to be nice.
